The Last Trip of the Millennium

Out West

When we left Sonoma with the trailer we were going with one main purpose - to see Elaine, John and the boys in Park City, Utah. After that it was not planned except to stay away from home for about three weeks. While in Utah we did a day trip to Promentory Point where the transcontinental railroad was completed. We shot some pictures there and also stopped for a few minutes at a rocket display at the Thiocol plant where the military and NASA rockets are built. The big rocket in the photo is a space shuttle booster!

After Park City we decided to go to see Flaming Gorge on the Utah - Wyoming border. We stopped on the way to see Fort Bridger in Wyoming. We included a short side trip to Dinosaur National Monument also and saw some things that we missed on a previous trip there.

Then it was time to decide which direction to go next. The weather was hot to the south so we went north toward Yellowstone. We stopped first at the Grand Tetons and spent a couple of days there. Then on to Yellowstone.

From Yellowstone we went west through Idaho, stopping at Craters of the Moon before going on into Oregon. We had never seen the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument so this was our opportunity. There are three locations to see and we made it to two of them on this trip. We always try to leave at least one thing out so we have more to see on the next trip.

Crater Lake is always a favorite when we are in this part of Oregon and it is conveniently placed on the way home. We took the boat tour for the first time this trip. The weather was stormy and in the 40's on the water. Lots of snow still in August!

Our last couple of stops are our routine return trip. Lava Beds, Lassen and then home.
